Vlady's series of self-portraits fall within the same search for aesthetic and technical perfection as do Rembrandt's. In this genre, there is no model to pose or to exhort to hold still for an always too short set of sittings. For Vlady, the self is a laboratory constantly in use for experimentation. It is perhaps in the art of self-portraiture that he attains perfection in his technique.
