Vlady is a cultural pirate who plunders the great works of classical painting, as well as Greco-Roman and Biblical mythology. Giorgione, Bellini, Titian, Tintoretto, Veronesi, Rubens, Rembrandt, El Greco, and, above all, Velásquez are called upon to illuminate our own era. Vlady deforms them, makes them grimace, screams bloody murder into the midst of the languorous late twentieth century.
